Best Seat in the House: Titan Sports

By Nicholas Wire

I’ve been to many games at Cal State Fullerton as a reporter and photographer, which means I’ve received exclusive access to Titan Stadium, Titan Aquatics Center, Anderson Family Field, Goodwin Field, Titan Track Complex and Titan Gym.

After a few semesters of attending games, I’ve spotted seating areas that I believe give the best fan experience.

Titan Stadium

Titan Stadium hosts men’s and women’s soccer in the Fall. Typically, the women’s game starts earlier, which means sunlight and heat are a major factor. The press box on the West side (home sideline) creates a shadow over the midfield seats for about 15 rows. For early games, those are the best seats. They’re cool, close to bathrooms and closest to merchandise.

For men’s games, which are often played during sunset through the night, I recommend sitting along an aisle, along the home sideline or closest to the scoreboard on the north side of the stadium. Food and concessions are sold on the north side of the press box and these seats give the closest view of the goal that CSUF opens the first half shooting at.

Goodwin Field

I recommend sitting along the third base line, since the seating is behind the Titans dugout and also sandwiched between the merchandise and food trucks. The players chirp loud enough from the dugout, so sitting back from the field is still an immersive experience that allows you to be close to the food. An honorable mention is the road outside the Arboretum that harbors foot traffic in the outfield. Many homerun balls are sent to right center, making this a desirable spot.

Anderson Family Field

Oftentimes the softball crowd is full of very young, loud, shrieking fans who get especially noisy when there are giveaways. The most enjoyable experience for a fan is behind the visiting dugout at first base. For one, they are away from the noise. I’ve also seen a plethora of foul balls sent to right field behind the first base dugout. The bathrooms near Anderson Family field shadows closer to right field, behind the press box.

However, just like at Goodwin Field, the concessions are closer to the third base dugout, where the Titans reside. This one is up to whether you want a peaceful experience with a chance at getting a souvenir, or an immersive, loud experience that is closer to the concessions.

Titan Gym

Most people sit on the east side of the gym, opposite of the Student Recreational Center. With scoreboards on both sides and the DJ on the south side of the gym, this position is usually the best spot to be. The music isn’t in your ear, you get a good view of the huddle/benches, and there is no obstruction of the scoreboards. For a faster-paced sport, sitting near a bigger crowd enhances the fan experience.

Titan Aquatics Center

Most of the seats at the Titan Aquatics Center are metal bleachers and they only really cover one side of the pool. The west side is where the fans all sit, while the north side of the pool typically is where Titan athletes from other sports will sit in support of the water polo teams. I recommend sitting as far south as possible in the fan bleachers, so you can get a good view of the scoreboard without compromising your view of either bench or cage.
